About Us

The business is wholly owned and run by Nigel Hunt as a retirement project from his home in the heart of peaceful Suffolk, United Kingdom.

Nigel served an apprenticeship with Thorn-AEI back in the sixties and after a brush with the authorities over a rather "naughty" radio station, set about a career in legal broadcasting. Hospital Radio was the first endeavour when Nigel and a few pals started "Radio Enfield" in 1970. Next stop was the "United Biscuits Network" from 1973 - 75 as station engineer working with such seasoned professionals as Adrian Love, Graham Dene and Roger Day. ILR beckoned in 1975 and Nigel spent twelve very happy years at "Radio Orwell" in Ipswich, latterly as Chief Engineer.

In 1987 Nigel left Radio Orwell, where he had amassed the vast amount of knowledge and contacts to enable him to start "Eastern Electronics" which is a company that specialises in radio broadcast engineering. The company has since been sold, but is still very busy, having built many of today's successful radio stations and studios.

"Tape Recorder" is the latest venture as a website dealing exclusively with reel to reel Revox tape recorders. Machines, accessories, spares and tape can be purchased from us. Servicing can be done to a very high standard in our small but well equipped workshop.

Nigel has been a keen Revox enthusiast since 1967 when he owned one of the first A77 machines. He was a keen member of the North London Tape and Hi Fi Club which brought many tape recording fans from all over London together to practice the art of creative tape recording. You can be assured of a personal service when you deal with us, as we are passionate about Revox tape recorders.

When he's not tinkering with a Revox, Nigel can usually be found experimenting with an alternative technology or renewable energy project either in the garden or the house. He's even created a geeky Alternative Technology at Home  website all about it and now the Home Alternative Technology Blog!
